Pre-employment Screening
Screening potential employees should be a major component of your company’s risk management process. Hiring the wrong individual can hurt you, both legally and financially. Studies reveal a large percentage of job applicants are untruthful on their applications. The deception ranges from exaggeration of skills, previous experience, leisure activities, and salary, to the inclusion of a bogus degree or failure to disclose criminal records.
Resume fraud has become quite sophisticated. Some applicants use hackers to add their names to student rolls. Others have purchased bogus degrees online, and some companies selling these degrees will verify them when contacted by a prospective employer.
Prior to hiring any applicant, ask yourself if you can trust the individual with your money, sensitive information, and reputation. More importantly, ask yourself if the applicant poses a threat to your employees, possibly exposing you to a negligent hiring lawsuit.
